Township to consider demolition of houses

May 12th, 10

The Pennfield Township Board will be considering how best to demolish the following houses in Pennfield Township that have failed to comply with the Dangerous Building Ordinance:

45 Oxford Street
83 Sharon Avenue
88 Sharon Avenue
935 Capital Avenue

The Township Board will also consider the following properties after a July 5, 2010 deadline:

706 Joy Road
11763 Burrows Road (demolition material)
11864 Gorsline Road (barn)
394 Concord Avenue
185 Pickford Street
77 Sharon Avenue

According to Pennfield Township Supervisor Rob Behnke each of these properties have been given a tremendous amount of time to either make the buildings safe or demolish them.

Pennfield Township, according to State statutes, can sue each property owner for the cost of demolition (by suing the Township can obtain a lien against all real property located in the State of Michigan, as well as collection action against other assets of the property owner or owners).  "Most of these houses have been abandoned by a property owner who just doesn't care about the property or the neighbors near the property.  It's time we took action".
