Speed limit studies completed in Pennfield Township
Nov 13th, 08
Township Supervisor Rob Behnke announced today that he has received the results of (2) speed limit studies within Pennfield Township.
The first study was done by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the Michigan State Police (MSP) along M-66 (Capital Avenue, NE) between Swift Road and Taylor Trace (near Morgan Road). According to the MDOT, the average 85th percentile speed by Taylor Trace was 56 miles per hour (the current speed there limit is 55 miles per hour) and by Swift Road was 57 miles per hour (the current speed limit there is 55 miles per hour). The results of the speed study, according to Ms. Angie Kremer, Traffic & Safety Engineer, MDOT, "do not indicate that a reduction in the speed limits would be beneficial in reducing the number of crashes."
The second study was conducted by the Calhoun County Road Commission (CCRC) along McAllister Road between Emmett Street and Belleveue Road. According to Ms. Angie Kline, Assistant County Highway Engineer, CCRC, "the results from this study do not warrant lowering the speed limit as requested. The study shows that approximately 17% of the vehicles are exceeding the posted speed likit of 45 miles per hour."
